Is Your Motorhome a Lemon?

If your motorhome or recreational vehicle (RV) won't work or constantly needs to be taken into the shop for repairs, it may qualify as a lemon. You may be entitled to reimbursement if:

  • You made at least four repairs for the same defect within a year of purchasing the motorhome.
  • A problem that you tried to have repaired once or twice was not fixed within a year of purchase.
  • The motorhome was out of service for a total of at least 30 days within the first year of purchase.

After the first year expires, any other defects or repairs have to be covered under your warranty. If you made a warranty claim and it was denied, read about the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to learn more.

If your vehicle qualifies as a lemon and your dealer refuses to give you the reimbursement or replacement vehicle you deserve, you can file a lawsuit and potentially win twice the amount you paid for your car plus attorneys fees.

Not All Problems Qualify Under Lemon Law

Motorhomes can be very complex vehicles. Not only can they be driven, they also allow their passengers to cook, shower, sleep comfortably, watch TV and generally enjoy all the trappings of home while on the road. If your DVD player or some other non-essential piece of equipment breaks, you cannot file a case under Lemon Law.
